How To Select Your Services Provider

If all of your employees are located under one roof, the number of PoPs your service provider offers won't concern you. However, the more PoPs a data carrier has in the cities/regions in which you have offices or users, the better service you might have.

If you are using permanent (leased line) connections in your offices, you want to avoid using a third party to reach your provider network. Getting connected directly or locally to your services provider eliminates many factors in terms of trouble shooting, network complexity. The outcome of this is a more reliable service.

If you are using dialup or ISDN service for Internet or VPN access, try to avoid having remote users or offices dialing in over toll lines to access corporate resources or access the Internet for business purposes. If employees can dial into a local PoP to access the e-mail server, you can eliminate costly telephone charges.

In conclusion, it is always recommended to ask your services provider to illustrate his network coverage, specifically the PoPs that should cover the geographical location of your offices. If you want to be more accurate about this, it is also recommended to include your geographical expansion plan, if any, while evaluating a service provide network.
