Email Security

The currently prominent email-sending protocol is SMTP.
Unfortunately, for the most of us, SMTP was not developed
with authenticity and confidentiality in mind. An example
of an authenticity problem is SPAM which incorporates email
spoofing. An example of a confidence problem is that emails
are sent in plain-text.
Sometimes, however, crucial information needs to be sent
(perhaps from the CFO to the CEO) via email, in which case
the security-levels provided by SMTP does not suffice. The
email needs to be encrypted; this is a confidentiality problem.
Other times, a bank notice needs to be sent to a client;
this notice however does not need to be encrypted. However,
the end-user, i.e. the client, needs to make sure that this
is actually the bank sending the email: it is an "authenticity"
problem.
The solution to this dilemma is to use a set of cryptographic
techniques to provide higher security assurance. The techniques
exist within the realm of "Public Key" cryptography,
and is currently implemented in the windows application
PGP (Pretty Good Privacy). In the next issue of our monthly
newsletter, we will explore how PGP works and how it can
be installed.

Q. Most pharmaceutical companies choose NOOR as their strategic
partner. Some may name this coincidence, while others name
it high performance and unmatched service quality. What do
you think?
A. I don’t think it is a coincidence.
NOOR is the choice of pharmaceutical companies due to your
high performance. Besides, as NOOR always reaches the expectations
of such multinational companies, I am totally confident that
I took the right decision.
Q. As part of Dr. Basel Dalloul's efforts to guarantee
customer's satisfaction and support, NOOR CEO pays field visits
to clients to check the service level and customer's satisfaction.
Has his visit had any influence?
A. Definitely, his visit was very friendly,
away from formalities, with lots of friendly discussions which
enhances our relations and opens a direct channel between
Lilly and NOOR CEO, making communication easier.
Q. Data carriers and Service Providers always play
key roles in boosting business. Has NOOR added to your business?
A. Yes but in an indirect way. All Our

24/7 which they have to fully rely on wherever they are and
whenever they need to. I believe NOOR has provided us with
this reliable connection that we can depend on
Q. NOOR has a heavy presence in Florida
Mall, serving more than one business. Is it the good word
of mouth that added Lilly to our list of customers?
A. Actually, we were the first in Florida Mall and we were
the ones who recommended NOOR to the rest within the mall.
We knew NOOR through one of your Sales people. After investigations
and several visits to you Data Center and head office to make
sure of your capabilities and customer service philosophy
, I was quite sure that my choice would be NOOR. So, I shifted
from a previous Data Carrier to NOOR.
Q. How do you find NOOR prices against the
quality of services, compared to other Service Providers?
A. Prices are not my concern now since
I am totally satisfied with NOOR quality of service. However,
I expect NOOR to be competitive in the very challenging market
we have now.
Q. What more do you expect from
NOOR?
A. To continue offering more services
as there is a lot in the world of communication specially
concerning mobility and small remote sites.
Q. Finally, how would you describe
NOOR in a few words?
A. NOOR is showing a new trend
for the CRM & Customer Care that our company is appreciating
very much and I guess it can be the case for many others.

Having the most powerful network in the region is
a good reason to reach the top, however, it is not
enough to keep you there. NOOR pays special attention
to HR development, especially in high caliber engineers.
Today, we shed some light on Yasser Aly, CCIE# 13643
Routing & Switching.
Backed up by 8 years of experience in the ISP/Telco
field and a BSc in Electronics and communications
from Cairo University, Yasser started his networking
career in 1997 with Internet Egypt, and later he joined
NOOR as early as 2001 as Senior Networks Engineer
in the Core Team. Recently he has been promoted to
be a Network Consultant for the R&D/ Network Planning.
In addition to CCIE# 13643 Routing & Switching,
Yasser has CCDP, CCNP, CCIP, and MCSE+I.
Yasser said that working in the networking field is
challenging and dynamic, which requires constantly
learning new technologies. He added that one of the
main reasons to start with Routing & Switching
track is to build a solid understanding about networking
concepts, for they are the milestone for the networking
industry. Meanwhile, it is the most recognized CCIE
track worldwide. For his future plans, Yasser’s
subsequent move is working to expand his knowledge
in CCIE Service Provider track and conversing data
and voice over single infrastructure.
